Christmas Card Success
Mater Ecclesiae College students would like to announce the success of their Christmas card fundraiser! Thanks to countless friends and family members who worked to promote the cards, we were able to raise the necessary funds for the college. But that’s not all, behind every achievement there is a hard working team and a story. Today we’d like to share this story.

Every Mission Has A Story
The setting: 4:00 pm after soccer practice on a Thursday afternoon. Chat room. World wide web. The situation: Like Hamlet’s internal struggle with the existential , Kelsey encounters her own internal dilemma: to give or not to give. This is the beginning of the story that the sophomore class brought to life in their academic presentation on January 2, 2010. Linking topics from their culture, philosophy, and psychology classes they presented students, faculty, and staff with a panorama of the challenges facing youth today and effective evangelization avenues, specifically through mission work.

Junior Debate 2009
On December 8th the student body and faculty members of Mater Ecclesiae College attended the 2009 Junior Debate. The Resolution debated was “Adhering to Christian values is essential for building a good society.” This was taken from a larger quote found in Pope Benedict XVI’s encyclical, Caritas in Veritate.

The Catholic Church and the Physical Sciences
“I realized that the Church is not indifferent to the discoveries in the field of science, but that she has a duty to promote and encourage what can benefit man. Faith is not opposed to reason. Faith is not opposed to science.” This is what Becca Olek has to say about the recent conference entitled “The Catholic Church and the Natural Sciences: Warfare, tolerance, or integration?” given by Dr. John F. Bratton.

Meet the Deans of Students
It has been said that any person can leave their mark on the world, and in Mater Ecclesiae College, there are four women in particular who make a great difference in the college life. Each class in the college has its own Dean of Students, someone who provides the students with one-on-one attention to enhance their integral development. They want each of the students they personally oversee to develop their full potential and reach their personal fulfillment.

What happens when 18 women convinced they have a mission to change the world visit the United Nations headquarters? Horizons are broadened and hearts are set even more on fire. This was what happened during our recent senior cultural visit to the U.N. Headquarters in New York City.

Mater Ecclesiae College congratulates Bishop Elect, Monsignor Evans
The students and faculty of Mater Ecclesiae College congratulate Monsignor Evans for his recent papal appointment to the status of auxiliary Bishop of Providence and assure him of their prayers. Mater Ecclesiae College is located on Austin Ave, only a corner away from Saint Philip’s Parish, and the student community of Mater Ecclesiae College has felt the fatherly care of this local pastor of souls. For this they are truly grateful.

The Life and Work of a Parish Priest
On the 17th of September, Fr. Rodger Landry, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua parish in New Bedford, MA came to Mater Ecclesiae and initiated this year’s guest speakers. Fr. Landry graduated from Harvard College with a degree in biology before studying in seminaries in Maryland, Toronto, and several years in Rome, where he did graduate work at the John Paul II Institute for the Studies of Marriage and Family.

22 Young Women Respond to Christ invitation, “Come follow me.”
On August 15th, 21 young women promised to live in poverty, chastity, and obedience to Christ and the Church within the Regnum Christi Movement. For 17 of these young women this day was a renewal of their promises which they made two years prior, for four more it was their first step in consecrating their entire lives to God.

At least twice a month Mater Ecclesiae College organizes excursions for the entire student body. These excursions provide an opportunity to get fresh air, enjoy nature and get some exercise while enjoying the company of their fellow students.

Academic Contests 2008-2009
Various academic contests held throughout the year help stimulate competition and interest in learning among the students. Colleen Littleton, sophomore class leader, said, “I really saw the class take the contests on as a challenge and way to broaden their knowledge. Everyone got involved!”
