MODERN LANGUAGES
Each student is required to master oral and written proficiency in a second language. Modern language offerings currently include: Spanish, French, Special Topics and English as a Second Language. Course elements include conversation, grammar, composition and literature. Spanish language courses are enriched by two days a week of on campus immersion (spiritual and social activities) and various language activities. Emphasizing a communicative approach, language classes are centered on laboratory sessions, which provide a dynamic environment to develop basic conversational skills.
Language classes are adapted to various learning levels. Depending on the language level, students may have the opportunity to pursue independent studies in Special Topics and/or to learn another language. To assess language skills, every student will undergo a placement exam at the beginning of their year of studies. The placement exam consists of an interview assessing life experience and communication skills as well as a written exam evaluating comprehension, grammar and writing skills.
