General Education Requirements

The pastoral services provided by a consecrated woman are always directed towards men and women who share a common human heritage, but who have their own personal characteristics, circumstances, and historical and cultural background. In order to offer them the required personalized assistance, a consecrated woman needs to be familiar with the many facets of contemporary society and culture, as well as the shared cultural heritage of humanity. A broad knowledge and understanding of human culture is, therefore, the necessary foundation on which a religious and pastoral studies program should be built.

The study of humanities is the principal means of entering into direct contact with our common cultural heritage. History, philosophy, literature, and the fine arts can be seen as reservoirs of human experience that collect the best of the passing centuries of cultures and societies. The social sciences, such as psychology and pedagogy, are particularly essential because of their direct bearing on the understanding of the person. A basic knowledge of the natural sciences and information technology is also a necessary complement for a better grasp of the present age.
