COMMUNICATIONS IN A GLOBAL SOCIETY

CO 102 English Composition I (3 cr)
Students focus on clear, logical, concise written expression through sentence diagramming, stylistic analysis and review of basic elements of written communication. The art of description is also examined through study of various authors and genres. Basic writing skills are complemented by an emphasis on style and literary techniques. Writing labs emphasize cross-curricular exercises.

CO 112 Communication Skills I (2 cr)
This course develops public speaking skills, enabling students to become effective in transmitting their message. It is an introduction to the field of public speaking through development of communication skills, including use of communication technologies, creative writing, and study and representation of various literary genres. These instruments of public communication are applied in a multi-media public presentation.

CO 202 European Literature and Literary Techniques I (2 cr)
This course surveys the literary foundation of Western Civilization and helps students to channel various genres and styles into their own artistic expression.

CO 204 European Literature and Literary Techniques II (2 cr)
This course continues to survey the literary foundation of Western Civilization and helps students to channel various genres and styles into their own artistic expression.

CO 302 Argumentation, Debate, and Essay Writing Techniques I (2 cr)
This is an analysis of various genres and theories of essay writing and a study-application of the diverse styles and literary techniques of classical and modern compositions. It encourages students to achieve a clear and concise prose style by emphasizing essay writing.

CO 304 Argumentation, Debate, and Essay Writing Techniques II (2 cr)
As a continuation of Argumentation, Debate, and Essay Writing Techniques I, this is an analysis of various genres and theories of essay writing and a study-application of the diverse styles and literary techniques of classical and modern compositions. It encourages students to achieve a clear and concise prose style by emphasizing essay writing.

CO 402 Publications and Techniques of Journalism (2 cr)
This course emphasizes the perfection of writing skills and introduces the student to journalistic writing with appropriate readings and analysis.

CO 410 Communication Skills IV (4 cr)
The course seeks to maximize the performance of oratorical skills, complementing them with modern means of communication. The student’s knowledge is enhanced through hands on experience in creating, coordinating and producing an original presentation. Opens the student to depth and continuity in extended speaking situations and stresses student analysis of organizational communication.
